PACAYA SAMIRIA CROSSING

Level: Medium +
(Intermediate plus)
  Duration: 8 days

This reserve contains enormous bio-diversity: 449 species of birds, 102 species of mammals, 69 species of reptiles, 58 amphibians, 256 species of fish and 1024 species of plants.

DAY 1

- 7 am departure from the Amazon Explorer office by motocarro.
- Car from Iquitos to Nauta (1:30 hrs). Breakfast served.
- Private motorboat from Nauta to Santo Domingo (3 hrs).
- Entrance permit for the National Reserve.
- Boat to the village (30 min).
- Visit a fish hatchery.
- Visiting "Chacra" and palm plantations.
- Leisure walk (1 hr).
- Search for tarantulas and other insects.
- Accommodation: Overnight in a typical village house.

DAY 2

- Motorboat (4 hrs).
- Set up camp and shelter.
- Excursion in search of Giant river otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) .
- Bird watching.
- Swimming at Lobo Creek.
- Nocturnal exploration.
- Overnight in the jungle.

DAY 3

- Motorboat to Yarina Village (6 hrs).
- Relax in hammocks.
- Excursion by canoe.
- Fishing for piranha (Serrasalmus nattereri) .
- Nocturnal exploration.
- Overnight in a typical village house.  

DAY 4-6

- Boat to camping area (3 hrs).
- Set up camp.

During this time we will do the following activities:

- Construction of individual and group shelters.
- Hiking through primary jungle in search of wildlife.
- Tracking footprints of Jaguar (Panthera onca) .
- Identification of medicinal plants.
- Drinking water from forest vines "Soga de agua" .
- Excursions in search of primates.
- Identification of animal tracks and footprints.
- Night trip in search of alligators.
- Walking exploration in search of nocturnal animals.
- Overnight in the jungle.

DAY 7

- Swimming in creek.
- Looking for pink dolphins (Inia geoffrensis) .
- Return by boat to the village.
- Walk around the village.
- Overnight in a typical village house.

DAY 8

- Construction of personal flotation devices, enjoy the fun of drifting downstream.
- Purchase of handicrafts (optional) .
- Return by motorboat to Nauta (3 hrs).
- Car from Nauta to Iquitos.
- Arrival at Amazon Explorer office (7 pm).

Services include: Transfer from Iquitos airport, all land and river transportation, private boat, all meals provided for duration of trip, regional refreshments and purified water, permission to the National Pacaya Samiria Reserve, native guides.

Materials: Mosquito nets, sheets, mattresses, hammocks and rubber boots.
Amazon Explorer provides financial support for the village.


Travel Information

Itineraries and activities are flexible and can be adapted according to the interests of clients.

The program may vary depending on weather conditions and seasonal constraints (dry and rainy season), depending on the regulation of the water levels in rivers of the Amazon region.

Air transport is used in conjunction with the expeditions and is subject to the local airline schedule. Flights are dependent on weather conditions.
